Ulric Miller, popularly known as Drunken Ulric, was a resident of Darkholm during the New Age.  True to his name, he owned and operated the Darkholm mill, and also owned an orchard.  He was once known as a respectable and hard-working entrepreneur with a thriving business.

Ulric was married to Arabella Miller, and had two children with her, Mirabel and Christabel.

When Mirabel was a youth, he spent time with her at the local lake, throwing her into the water as she squealed in delight.

Around unctual year 3880, a young Jenna Saiquois and her father visited the saw mill, asking Ulric to fashiona rocking chair.  Ulric argued it couldn't be done in a month, but managed it anyway.  He was sober for the entire month, but went right back to drinking after he finished the task.

After she grew up, Mirabel left Darkholm; some speculated that the absence of his daughter was what drove him to despair.

In unctual year 3887, Ulric had planned to join the crew of the Mermaid's Bliss, but he became so inebriated the night before the ship set sail that he was in no condition to travel.  He sent his youngest daughter, Christabel, in his stead to deliver the promised oranges that the crew would need for their journey to combat scurvey.  Christabel ended up taking her father's place on board the ship.

Notes[]

Ulric's mill has been described inconsistently as either a saw mill or a paper mill, until Embarrassment of Riches finally goes "the heck with it" and describes it as both. Take that!

It is unknown whether Ulric survived the destruction of Darkholm at the hands of the moths.  In The Quest for the World-Breaker, Ulric's mill has been abandoned, suggesting that he either died or moved away from Darkholm.
